There are two images below each advocating for their own side of the nuclear energy debate. The first image is from a protest against a nuclear power plant in Yankee, Vermont. The main sign in the picture states “Nuclear energy: It’s a deadly waste”, this is a well worded sign as it brings to light one of the most important issues with generating nuclear energy. This danger is that the waste produced as a byproduct from nuclear reactors is highly radioactive and as of this moment we do not have a safe and environmentally friendly way of disposing it. The second picture features a sign from a pro-nuclear rally or walk. The sign states “Forget fossil, 100% clean energy” and then lists the clean energy solutions we have found so far in solar, hydro, nuclear, and wind. Nuclear energy is important to this clean list because it runs on water and radioactive uranium, generally, so the fission process producing the energy does not have a byproduct toxic to the ozone like burning fossil fuels or natural gases. The fact that nuclear energy has no climate change exhaust associated with it leads us to believe that it is much better for the environment and therefore the sign is quite compelling and includes a good amount of information on it. If I were to write a sign for a pro-nuclear stance it would include something along the lines of, clean the environment go clean energy, and then a list of clean energy sources with nuclear at the headline. If I was to write a sign against nuclear energy it would say, go 100% renewable energy sources and put an x through nuclear and fossil fuels. (WC:284)
